Tasman Bridge Pathways Consultation Open

The Tasmanian and Australian Governments have committed $130 million to upgrading the Tasman Bridge to make it more usable for cyclists, pedestrians and I guess those who own those scooter things.

The upgrade will feature a 3.5 m pathway on both sides of the bridge for enhanced cyclist and pedestrian access. Improvements will also include other stuff we cyclists aren't so interested in like heightened safety barriers, upgraded maintenance infrastructure, along with feature and security lighting. When completed, it will strengthen the bridge, increase safety and improve active transport connections between the eastern and western shores.

The Department of State Growth have created a web page where you can find out more information, and a pretty cool online map thing where you can add any comments or feedback (or give the thumbs up to other peoples suggestions).

I for one will be adding my comments about the need to ensure that the approaches (especially from Riawena Road) are also considered.  As much as I enjoyed getting hit by a car recently that failed to give way at one of the give way signs, it would be nicer to not have had that experience.
