Mt Owen Cable Car Proposal

There is a new proposal to build a cable car to the top of Mt Owen, near Queenstown.

Seems like it is still in the "good idea" stage at this point of time, with the proponent a Mr Brett Schulze, still needing to gain access to the land (which is under a mining lease), funding etc. but hey - anyone who has been in this area on a good day knows how beautiful it can be ... so here's hoping this one comes to pass.

For those who like to know the facts and figures a bit more, as reported in the various news articles, a pre-feasibility study found that:
  • 325,000 people travel through Queenstown;
  • the proposed development would generate new overnight stays in Queenstown and the region without drawing visitors from other regions and create more than 30 direct and 80 indirect jobs;
  • The economic impact would be more than $15 million; and
  • Visitors to the state will stay longer in Tasmania, leading to extra bed nights, which adds to the economic value of our proposed investment.

Here's hoping we hear more about this project in the future.
